Reiki (pronounced RAY-kee) is from the Japanese words Rei, which translates to mean universal or being everywhere, and Ki, which translates to mean life energy. Reiki is believed to be spiritually guided life energy. It was formally developed by Mikao Usui in 1922. However, this type of energy healing has been practiced for thousands of years.
If you’ve ever had acupuncture, you may be familiar with the concept of Ki, (or Chi/Xi). This is believed to be the life-force energy that flows through the body. When Ki is blocked, our wellness is compromised. The goal of Reiki is to restore the optimal level of energy flow, thus allowing the body to perform its healing functions, restoring us to wellness.
During a Reiki session, the recipient may be sitting or lying down, and unlike a massage, they remain fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands on the recipient, or just above their body, in order to channel the energy to the recipient.
A Reiki session may help ease tension and stress and may help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels- physical, emotional and spiritual. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is most often utilized for one’s own personal wellness.
I am a level 2 certified Reiki Practitioner and have received training and attunements from Reiki Masters Rhea Mistades and Jaime Moreland.
